Prayer – Building a relationship with God

Let us then approach God’s throne of grace and confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in our time of need. Hebrews 4:16

Relationships are hard to build and maintain in our daily lives be in our family, work or community. Yet , we all have friends and family members whom we love to spend time with and enjoy their company and fellowship. God had a wonderful relationship with mankind in the Garden of Eden and it was lost when sin entered the world. But because of His Son Jesus Christ, the relationship is restored and we now have direct access to God through His Son and the Holy Spirit.

Sons and Daughters of God – When we accept Jesus as our Lord and savior and invite Him into our lives and heart, we immediately become the sons and daughters of God. The relationship is set right and now we have access to all of God’s promises and blessings. Some of us may feel new and born again immediately and feel the burden of sin lifted off our shoulders when we say the salvation prayer. But it is by faith we know that God is now our Father and we can go to Him whenever we want. The first step is to know that our salvation is assured and we enter into a new relationship with God and replace religion with a relationship. Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” Galations4:6

A discipline prayer life – Just like any relationship on earth, which strengthens and grows as you spend time with the person which is built on love , honesty and trust, so is our relationship with God. God is not interested in our routines or schedule but rather in our heart and the over that we have for Him and the things of God. But having a disciplined prayer life with a set timing and setting apart some time for prayer and talking to God will help us grow in our walk with the Lord. Have a set time for prayer during the day and pray at least 3 times a day to build a relationship with God.Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench the Spirit. 1 Thessalonians 5 :16-19

Pouring your heart to God We most keep no secrets from our friends. In the same way when we have a problem or are in some trouble we must run to the Lord in prayer and pour our hearts to Him. We can be completely honest with the Lord and share all our thoughts, struggles and accomplishments. Only when we are completely transparent with the Lord and show Him what is in our hearts and mind, He will show us areas that need His touch and we exchange our sorrows and joy for His love and peace which is priceless. If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given Him. James 1:5

Increase your time in the presence of the Lord – It is important that we do not make our prayer life monotonous and a routine bur rather enjoy the presence of the Lord and have fellowship with Him. As we spend time with the Lord, we will begin to realize that He is our friend and He is our creator and He only He knows what is best for us. When we spend a lot of time with someone, we begin to learn some of their mannerisms and even start to think and talk like them. In the same way, when we spend more time with the Lord, His power flows through us, He reveals who He is through His word, He shows us who we really are, the purpose He has created us and get His direction and know that He is leading us.He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust”. For He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge, His faithfulness is your shield and bucker – Psalm 91: 1-4

Be still and listen – Be still in the presence of the Lord, learn to listen to His still small voice. He will show you areas where you need to change and reveal His plan for your life, family , job, business and future. Step by step He will guide you and instruct you into a future where all the talents that He has given you can be used for His kingdom.

It is not enough to be assured of salvation, strength and wisdom comes when we have built a strong relationship with the Lord. It all starts with wanting to build a relationship with God and wanting to know Him in a deeper level. It involves a lot of sacrifice and faith but the reward and the blessings that we get is worth the sacrifice.

Prayer – Lord I want to know you in a deeper level and understand all the plans and purposes that you have for me. Help me in my weakness and give me the strength. Amen
